Public Policy Updates: September 2022 Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education met for their September meeting at 9 am. The agenda can be found online here; the video of the meeting here. The meeting started a bit late due to traffic.

The Board opened with some comments regarding the 50th anniversary of M.G.L. Chapter 766, covering special education, which was a forerunner of the federal IDEA law. Secretary Peyser also noted that STEM week is coming up October 17.

Special August meeting of the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education

 The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education held a special meeting on Monday, August 15 at noon. The agenda can be found here; the video of the meeting is here

The Board opened with public comment, much of which focused on the proposal to raise the MCAS score required to fulfill the state's competency determination for high school graduation.

Public Policy Updates: March 2022 Board of Ed

The Board of Elementary and Secondary Education met on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 at 9 am; the agenda can be found online here. The video of the meeting is here.

Chair Katherine Craven opened the meeting by speaking of the Board being reminded of gratitude, as the Board plans to honor MEMA, the National Guard, the Malden police, and others during the meeting, followed by a presentation on the Springfield Empowerment Zone, which she calls "a great shining example" of the state's cooperation with districts. She speaks of the work of the Board now "knowing we've turned the corner" on the pandemic.
