On behalf of Massachusetts school committees, MASC participates in court cases as amicus curiae (friend of the court) in various legal issues that pertain to public elementary and secondary education.
MASC legal counsel is available to consult with your town counsel, city solicitor, and/or school committee attorney on school legal matters. Member districts may also request written opinions from the MASC counsel on education-related issues. For questions about the availability of Legal Counsel contact Glenn Koocher.
MASC keeps abreast of current legal developments in public education at both the federal and state levels. With the help of the National School Boards Association and the MASC legal counsel, the Association has ready access to the most up-to-date laws and regulations and is able to advise members on new legal requirements and court decisions involving public education. Regular mailings of the Legal File, a publication prepared by MASC's legal counsel, keeps members informed of any changes to the law and the potential impact of such changes on local school districts.
