Massachusetts Council of School Attorneys

About the Council of School Attorneys (COSA)

Formed in 1997 to provide information and practical assistance to attorneys who represent public school districts, the MA Council of School Attorneys in collaboration with the National School Boards Association (NSBA) Council of School Attorneys is a membership organization of more than 40 affiliate state councils and more than 3000 attorneys nationwide who work to improve the practice of school law and prevent lawsuits against public schools.

The Massachusetts Council of School Attorneys (COSA) is a valuable professional development opportunity for school law practitioners across the state. In addition to programs and resources available to COSA members through MASC, COSA embers automatically become a  members of the the NSBA Council of School Attorneys and your NSBA Council dues will be assumed by MASC. Membership benefits for Council members are many, and increase firms' ability to research issues and respond to clients’ concerns in a timely and thorough manner. Members of the council have access to the collective experience and guidance of other members and the NSBA General Counsel office professionals, plus many other training and research options, as well.

Resources:

Members receive timely print and online resources from NSBA and MASC including weekly Legal Clips, Federal Regulations and Resources, Inquiry and Analysis, the Legal Notes, Legislative Updates and our Annual MA Selected General Laws for School Committees and School Personnel publication. Members also receive access to NSBA’s vast library of school law articles.

Network:

Members have the opportunity to network with other school attorneys through NSBA Connect, NSBA school law webinars, live seminars, discussion forums and the annual COSA meeting in Boston.

Exposure:

Exposure to Massachusetts school leaders through listings on the MASC website and MASC publications. Also, receive invitations to a variety of MASC workshops and events, including the annual MASC/MASS Joint Conference in Hyannis, featuring over 800 school leaders in attendance. Members receive preferential selection and 15% discount on booth space and advertising at the conference, as well.
